Dr. Mike Berrebi — Sport & Performance Consultant

About Dr. Mike Berrebi

Ph.D. · Licensed Professional Counselor (CO #LPC.0022425)

I’ve spent over a decade of my life working with athletes and performers to help them break barriers that exist both inside and outside of themselves. As a licensed mental health counselor with a Ph.D. in Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology, I work to bring my clinical experience and doctorate-level training to propel athletes beyond what holds them back. I specialize in working with youth, high school, and college athletes within the state of Colorado, but I am primarily located in Centennial, Denver, and the Great Denver Metro area.

My goal is to collaborate with you to elevate your game and ensure you become the most consistent and potent version of yourself on and off the field.

I started Elevation Sport & Performance Consulting to help athletes and performers thrive both mentally and emotionally. As a multi-sport athlete growing up, I recognized early on the importance of the mental game — and felt firsthand how performance anxiety, negative self-talk, and struggles dealing with pressure could hold me back.

As I got older, I became passionate about helping aspiring athletes acquire the tools needed to enhance enjoyment, boost performance, and build lasting well-being on and off the field of play.

My Story

The athletes I’ve worked with come from every sport and every level. I’ve guided middle schoolers stepping into their first season of competitive sport, and collaborated with collegiate athletes navigating the long road back from major injuries (such as ACL reconstruction). Alongside my clinical experience, I’ve practiced in college counseling centers and taught university courses in sport psychology, exercise and health psychology, and stress management. Some of my work has been featured in The Gazette, The Daily Iowan, and WQAD.

Degrees & Training

My academic background spans biology, counseling, and the science of sport and performance psychology — built deliberately to support the work I do with athletes today.

  • Ph.D. in Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology West Virginia University
  • M.S. in Sport and Exercise Psychology West Virginia University
  • M.A. in Counseling West Virginia University
  • B.S. in Biology Pennsylvania State University

My Approach

Every athlete has their own story that defines who they are and how they compete. There is no one-size-fits-all program. Everyone I partner with has different pressures and different goals; the work I do must honor their background to help produce the greatest outcomes.

I approach our sessions with the intent of equipping you with the tools you’ll need to deploy on the field, at the start line, or in the final minutes of the moment that matters most.

Evidence-Based Mental Skills

Visualization, breathing strategies, cognitive restructuring, and mindfulness — practical techniques you can use in practice, competition, and everyday life.

Counseling-Informed Support

Anxiety, identity, motivation, fear of reinjury, transitions — these are real challenges that deserve real support beyond performance coaching.

Athlete-Centered Process

Whether we’re building pre-game routines, rebuilding confidence after a setback, or processing a season-ending injury, the work is always tailored to you.

A Practice Built Around Young Athletes

Every competitor I’ve had the privilege to work with has helped shape my work — we all bring a unique experience and perspective to our respective sport or activity. My job is to meet you with an approach that’s as specific as the goals you’re working toward.

Youth & Collegiate Focus

I specialize in working with youth, high school, and collegiate athletes and performers. The work is built around where you are right now — not generic advice that fits every age and level.

Sport Psychology + Counseling

The combination of a counseling background with doctoral-level training in sport psychology means you get holistic support that addresses both mental health and performance — not one in isolation.

15+ Years of Experience

From NCAA Division I athletes to middle schoolers competing for the first time, I’ve worked with athletes across a wide range of ages, sports, and competition levels — and only use evidence-based strategies.
